17 inch from 19s?

Basically want to put on winter tires, dealer says can put 17 no problem (right now have the 19 on the 1.6t) - i'll ask the dealer the exact size but anyone here done the same? what size tire and rim? and what's hubcentric all about? I'll be buying from Costco, both tires and steelies.

Hubcentric is when the hole at the center of the rim rides on the hub or rotor or drum
It makes for a much better balanced wheel assembly

You will need 5x114.3 wheels with a 67.1mm hub center. You may use wheels that have a larger hub center and buy an adaptor so they fit properly. but you can't use wheels with a smaller hub center.

The hub ring self-centers the wheel to the hub to have proper alignment between the wheel and hub/brake drum. If you have a larger hub center than hub the wheel can misalign and wobble causing problems to the lugs and suspension.

Hey there,
I just installed my winter tires and took them on a test drive. You can see the details in this post.

Basically you need to search for wheels with this spec:
  • 17" diameter (16 inches does not fit if you have Electric Parking Brake)
  • 7" width is the best for the approved tire size of 225/60 R17 but you can fit 7.5" as well
  • 5x114.3 bolt pattern (a.k.a. PCD) a.k.a. 5x4.5" if the specs are not metric
  • 67.1 CB (center bore) - that's the central hole. You can get bigger, but you'll need to ask for hub centering rings for the OEM size of 67.1
  • 51 ET (offset) - this is the least important parameter, you can go higher or lower (ET48 is a really popular size) but I wouldn't recommend ET40 or lower. The suspension is really configured for 48-53 offset so you might get uneven wear with lower values
