Tire pressure?

Anyone have any idea why the 2017 Elantras are calling for THIRTY SIX PSI cold tire inflation pressure? I would imagine it's to improve fuel economy, but IDK for sure. All of the past cars I've had were 32 psi cold pressure...

Likely for fuel economy. Try different psi from 30-40 and see what feels best for you. I do my vehicles at 34-35psi and have for years.

Fuel economy, better drive feel, take a little longer for air to seep out to point "low air" light come on because nobody checks air in tires anymore (aisle fella always adding air to tires for people who show up saying "my light is on")

My light came on a couple of days ago, probably because of the cold weather. This is the first time I have added air to my 2017 so I was also a little surprised it was 36 but that is what I filled it to.

You have to look on the inside of the door (driver's side) My 2017 limited with 17 inch wheels call for 33 PSI.

My '07 Accent calls for 30 PSI in either of the two recommended 14" tire sizes. Car rides like mush & handles like a wobbly turtle on that low of a pressure. I keep them all at 35 psi. I get a little better mileage and slightly better handling especially in twisty corners. plus if I lose a pound or two I'm still above the manufacturer's recommended PSI.

our 2016's call for 33. i have experimented with the pressures, and at about 30 the lite comes on. remember every 14 deg is 1psi. so if you check pressure at 100 deg temps, and a few days later it drops to 50, the lite may come on. and you also probably live in texas.

The door panel number is what the manufacturer deems to feel the best ride versus tire wear. It is not necessarily the best for everyone and you are perfectly fine as long as you do not exceed the COLD PSI on the sidewall of the tire, normally 44 PSI or 51. I run mine at 40 front and 38 rear to avoid the outside wear on front tires but that is my preference. remember for every 10 degrees F change in outside temp the PSI in the tire changes by 1 PSI so cold winters can change the PSI by several pounds on a cold pressure check.

I'm finding 35 works best for me. Ride is good. Tire wear seems fantastic.
