Clutch replacement advice???

Ok guys. Yesterday my clutch went out and it went fast. One minute it was fine and then it wouldn't even engage and go in gear. Car is less than 2 years old With just under 40,000 miles. According to service advisor the clutch is only warrantied for 1 year 12000 mile. They want $1700 to replace it. Seems crazy for a clutch to go that fast. I've never had this issue with any other car at this mileage. I don't race the car and I don't ride the clutch. Any advice appreciated!!! Thanks!

it has been a while since i had m/t, but the clutch slave goes first. dunno if this is all internal, but if you can see the slave cylinder, it will push on a lever that controls the t/o bearing. if that lever aint moving, it is a blown slave. and they do go out like a lite switch. the clutch disc and plate go gradually, and generally, it will start to slip more and more. the master cyl also can go fast, but generally it is the slave. a long time ago, i did destroy a clutch disc, but it was in a lotus elan, the disc was of british manufacture, and the car was being autocrossed. and winning. THAT was a chore. had to be special ordered(meaning BIG bucks, i think the disc was like 600 bucks, and that was way back in 73). effing engine had to be pulled to get at it, too.

I checked the slave and it is moving back and forth fine but the throw out bearing makes a bad squeak when you are pressing the pedal. I thought it might have been a failure in that area but the dealership took 1 hour looking at and decided it must be the clutch itself and its not a warranty item. Seems ridiculous to me but this is my first new car ever.

I thought it was part of the power train??
Not covered??
Is there anyone else I can talk to?
Maybe call up Hyundai and ask why the clutch is not covered?

I don't know. But, if this is the case then maybe never get a manual.
If automatic transmission goes then it should be covered??

Did you check it with someone pushing the pedal to the floor? The lever will still move, but what happens is the fluid pifses out of the cylinder. Does pumping the pedal make the clutch work?

Do you know any satisfying profanity?!

Yes I was underneath it while my son worked the pedal. No leakage just noise.... yeah I thought it would be covered as well. Turns out Hyundai covers the clutch no longer than the wiper blades. 12000 miles/ 1 year. Which I get putting that in writing to ensure someone doesn't abuse the crap out of it and expect to get a free replacement over and over until the warranty ends but I haven't abused it. I don't race it. I don't ride the clutch. So to me this is BS customer service by Hyundai.

Clarify,,,

Push pedal with engine idle,,, can we freely select gear with shifter ?

No slip once in gear. Car idling won't go in gear unless I force it. And I mean hard! I'll take pic of slave as soon as its back from dealership tomorrow. Wish I didn't bring there becasuse now they are going to charge me for doing basically nothing. Grrr hindsight.

If I start it already in gear it will jump and try to move. And if I start it in neutral I can't select any gear with clutch depressed

Sounds to me that Hyundai doesn't want to pay for a transmission by blaming the clutch.
