i have a 2000 elantra but i dont have the owners manual. what is the best type of oil to use? what about the filter? i live in arizona and it's about to get really hot here.

also, can anyone recommend a good website that shows instructions on how to flush the coolant and manual transmission fluids?

I also need to replace the timing belt and drive belts. Is that possible to do yourself? The dealer wants almost 400 dollars for it.

I would use 10w30 synthetic oil (mobile) and a pure one oil filter (purolator). oh i already do, but thats what i would use in a newer car like yours in AZ because like you said it gets hot down there and the oil won't break down as quick like conventional oils do. You can do the timing belt, but if you don't know what you are doiong leave it to a pro to do because if you mess it up you're gonna wish you paid the $400. And a web site for the coolant and tranny flush i don't know.

i changed the oil today with castrol gtx sae10w30 synthetic oil. i used that because the mobile1 oil was 5 bucks a quart and the castrol was only 2. is there really that big of a difference? and I used a fram filter cuz i bought it at walmart and they didn't have any pureone filters. all they had was fram and the walmart brand, i think it's called supertech.

I'm going to flush the coolant tommorrow. is there any particular brand of coolant that works best or are they all the same?

oh and p.s. - what does the sae mean?

The oil you bought is just fine i use that in my girlfriends car and brothers car (none sythentic). You said you paid $2 a qt. (synthetic) if thats all it cost the one **** of a price because sythetic usually runs arounf $5 a qt. Me personaly i would use prestone antifreeze for the coolant flush usually around $10 a gallon but any antifreeze will work (not dex-cool thats GM approved and its orange) stay away from that. and SAE means Society of Automotive Enginees.

Remember that oil viscosityto use depends on the Temperature.
In Winter it is OK 10 W 30.
But in summer (media of 25 centgrados) you should use 20W 40.

Thumbs down

I heard the CVVT works off oil pressure I would not go with something as heavy as 20W-50!!

10x30 semi synthetic oil is fine for all gerneral purpose use, when you drain and flush the cooling system don't add more than 50% anti-freeze
