SiriusXM Data Problem

Is anyone having a problem with SiriusXM data? So far, other than the horrible cold engine start sound, I like my '15 Sonata 2.0T Sport Limited, but cannot get my SiriusXM data to work properly, despite my account being set up for both audio and data.

My SiriusXM audio works fine, but every time I turn the engine off, I lose my SiriusXM Data [traffic, weather, etc.] If I call for a signal refresh, everything comes back and works - until the engine is shut off.

After much research, SiriusXM says my radio is losing the "handshake" when the car is turned off and that I need a new head unit, or at least a software update. Before I try and push the dealer to do this, here are two pics of the radio screen. Can any of you verify that everything here is correct? If there is a software error, at least tracking down the problem might be much easier.

Thanks!

Thanks, Igashu. I think my car was built in February, so at least we both have the latest software. I am taking my car in Thursday or Friday so hopefully they will find something else or reinstall the software. I live in the NY metro area, so although not perfect, the nav traffic is at least a tool in my traffic-avoiding arsenal.

car bought in october of 2014.

Not sure if thats newer software on mine or older their naming convention is about as confusing as it gets.

I do know initially XM reps didn't even realize our cars were capable of data. there was an old thread where people would call XM and they refused to activate data because xm reps said it wasn't possible..

I can't say i have had such an issue though.. sorry,

Slightly off-topic question: are there actually people who subscribe to XM Data services after the trial period? It seems rather expensive for what you get. As best I can tell, though, there's no other way for the built-in nav software to get traffic data, which is really disappointing. It would be nice - especially since our car has WiFi capability - to be able to download real time traffic data via an alternate (TCP/IP) source with a tethered phone or wifi hotspot to incorporate into navigation.

Not that I suppose it will matter as much anymore once they actually push out Android Auto support and I just use Google Maps/Waze for navigation. But it's a shame that nav ETAs took traffic into account for the first 3 months of my car's life... and then never will again

I may be wrong about this but I believe the traffic data is provided by Google to those with the bluelink package activated that covers it. I can't remember which package it is off hand but think it's the nav/guidance package.

You are right. It took me three supervisors before they finally realized my radio WAS SiriusXM Data capable, making the problem even more frustrating. Apparently Hyundai issued an update about which radios were XM Data compatible, but the SiriusXM system wasn't properly updated.

As far as your screenshot, I have newer software, etc., but I wonder if that is part of the problem, especially since yours works and mine doesn't. I'll keep you posted.

Nice to know on the newer software, everytime i in for service i ask them to update the HU and they say they will check but nothing ever happens.

I def know now to make some noise about that on my next service.

You still need XM data subscription.

I spoke to a Blue Link rep. In order to continue to receive traffic info, locate gas stations etc via blue link you still must have a subscription to XM for the data package. I didn't opt to keep it so I don't have any more info than that.

XM reps are not always reliable

Sorry, though I can't comment directly regarding your issue, I thought I would add my two cents in general about my experience with XM in terms of the lack of reliability of info from their customer service reps. I have had XM for many years, way before I got the free trial when I bought my Sonata. In my experience often they couldn't figure out how to tie a shoelace, let alone help troubleshoot a problem. Quite often with my other vehicle, they just got the info wrong, from canceling the wrong account, to never updating when I changed some portion of the service, to failing to charge for my subscription for several months because they believed the radio in my prior vehicle was deactivated. There was no way I could convince them the radio was still functioning when I got rid of the old car lol. As such, it appears the new owner will have free XM radio for the life of the old car! Lol. So I'd be skeptical about an assessment by the XM reps. I also recall seeing another thread where XM reps told multiple owners Sonatas were not capable of receiving the info provided via traffic etc.
