2017 Sonata Sport Pricing

Hi,
Looking in the market to replace a 2006 Sonata with another Sonata. Stopped by dealership and was surprised to find that they are offering $4000 off the MSRP on a 2017 Sonata Sport 2.4L. Doing some googling and found a dealership that has one listed with a MSRP of $25600 with not one but two discounts: -$2873 dealership discount plus another -$4000 for the manufacturer discount. I know a new model is coming in '18 but would dealerships drop their prices that low to move inventory. Very tempted to contact the dealer. Wanted to get opinions from the folks on this forum about the price and prices that others have paid for a 2017 (I searched the forums and found prices paid for 2016 and 2015). Thanks!

My wife and I just bought two Sonatas: a Limited 2.0t at just about $10,000 off sticker ($6750 in factory incentives) and an SE 2.4 at about $7900 off sticker ($4000 in factory incentives). Amazing deals on Sonatas.

4.5,
Wow! I have to ask... how'd you swing such a huge discount on both? I ran the model that I'm looking for through true car to get a rough idea of what the local and national averages are and the price listed on the website I found is lower by about $200.

Slimboogie, prices certainly seem to be regional. In the Southwest I didn't see anything close to what 4.5 was able to get. I saw several large dealers with advertised prices like the one you cited above. When I investigated, their dealer rebate was based on other manufacturer (military, current owner, and others I can't remember) as well as financing rebates. You may qualify for these and you may not. Many of these dealers have large 'Dealer processing fees' of ~$500 or so keep that in mind.

In the end I bought from a local dealer that I liked, with no dealer fees. They gave me a great trade in $ for my old car (which I owned outright), so that saved me about $350. The tax savings and the no dealer fee added up to about $750-$850.

My Sport;s MSRP was $25,580. I paid $20,500 and am well pleased with that deal. Others may do better, but I got a lot of car for $20K and so far am extremely pleased with it.

HighDesertMan,
Thanks for the feedback and you are right about the regional differences. I was down in GA this past weekend visiting family and test drove a Sonata. I am stationed in the DC area. There is a huge difference between what the two different regional dealerships are asking (~3K). I need to do some more digging tomorrow to find out what the OTD price would be at the dealership in VA and see if the they will match down in GA. Huge stretch but couldn't hurt to ask. Was the $20500 OTD for you and include the $4K incentive? Thanks!

The $20,500 was the sale price after $4K incentive and dealer discount, minus my trade, and plus TT&L.

Be sure to ask out of state dealers if they apply any state taxes to the sale. Some out of state dealers I spoke to had state or local taxes they applied to the sale which would have cost me $400-$500.

It pays to look at the whole deal. I, too, was grabbed by the great advertised prices. After digging into it and adding on their dealer fees, the 'rebates' I didn't qualify for, extra taxes, transport costs; suddenly the car advertised for $18,500 was considerably more.

I just bought my 17 Sonata Limited on May 1st. I was deciding between the Sport with value package and Limited. But there was a $2000 difference in rebate between the Sport and Limited so they would come out to about the same price. So I heard about a $1000 rebate for being an Uber driver to I signed up last week and became an Uber driver and gave one ride. You actually don't even have to give a ride to get the rebate, just print out your profile where it shows that you are active. I went to one dealership that had the car I wanted in stock. I tried to haggle, but the price was higher than another dealer that didn't have the car in stock. I found out that the TrueCar price was lower than my haggle price, so I would recommend using TrueCar. I bought the car from a TrueCar dealer that had the car I wanted in stock.

Here's the details of my deal:
17 Sonata Limited MSRP $28,300: $19,729 - $1000 Uber - $750 HMF rebate = $17,979 + TTL ($1,521) = $19,500 out the door.

My recommendation is to get the Limited over the Sport with value package since it's only a few hundred dollars difference. They are in short supply though.

That's a great deal. I couldn't find anything remotely close to that in my search.

Two questions if you don't mind:

1. How'd you start at $19,729 from that starting MSRP? I get the $6k rebate but what about the other $2,500?
2. Would you mind sharing what interest rate you got from HMF and if you believe it to be comparable to if you went through a normal bank or credit union?

It was the negotiated dealer discount. I've attached my purchase agreement.
2. I got a regular, non-promotion rate of 5.59% which is really high, my local credit union is 1.49%. Since the rate is so high, I decided to put down $14,000. I heard the salesman said you have to wait 3 months before refinancing to keep the $750 HMF rebate, but I will call HMF when I get my first bill. The best deal I found for refinancing is Penfed.org. You can donate $5 and become a member. Use their vehicle purchase program/Truecar to get 0.99% rate.
