Would 205/60/16 be okay to use?

So I've just given back my lease for a 2011 Kia Forte and bought a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, I have a set of winter tires that was used for less than 3 months but the size is 205-60-16, the tire size for the Sonata is 215-60-16 would it be safe for me to use the 205-60-16 setup? This would save me from having to buy another setup this year, but don't want to risk it just in case it wouldn't work out.

Please advice, love the site so far.

Thanks.

The point is that the circumference varies, so you have a different velocity indication, and in some states (like here in Italy) you can't put different tyres if they are not indicated on car documents.

IDK what the **** Zotto was saying. You will be fine. The with of the tire will just be slightly less with the new set, but only by a few MM. They will bolt up just fine, and will make good winter tires.

the slight loss in tire width going to the narrower tires wont cause much difference in regular driving. it will cause loss of traction from a stop at full throttle an some loss in cornering grip but thats about it. just keep an eye on the wear of the tread but it should be just fine

These narrower tires, however, will improve traction in the snow as there is less contact area and therefore more force applied per square inch of contact area. Typically you want to go with narrower tires in the winter. These tires will be slightly smaller in diameter, since they have a narrower width with the same profile, and will affect the speedometer slightly but not by that much.

Don't worry Zotto, we have a great many silly laws here too, but there is a great American tradition over here to mostly ignore silly laws.
