Check ECU codes without scanner?

Is there a way to check the ECU codes without a scanner tool? On my honda there is a way to set the check engine light to flash in a certain order and from that you can read the check engine code. Is there a way to do something similar on a Sonata? I've got a 2006 Sonata. Thanks.

I'm wondering if there is a way to check them without doing that. Without using a scan tool.

Got to have a scan tool, been that way since 1996 and OBD-II

Additionally Autozone or Oreilly's will only read generic P type codes

Any dealer specific code, such as one not starting with P0 you will not be able to read. Any Chassis or C codes will be hidden, as well as any network codes or U codes.....

Again, something to keep in mind for future reference

Invest in a cheap scanner and leave it in the car.
