Well, for the first time ever I have damaged one of my cars.

I've had my Sonata for about a month and am having a hard time adjusting from the world of two door coupes to this mammoth of a sedan.

I'm thinking that the black is not the base but the primer, I could be wrong though. But I believe I could do a:

Putty filler -> Touch up paint -> Clearcoat -> Buff -> Polish

I don't want to do a whole bumper repaint, so hopefully some touch up work will take care of this. If not, I'll wait for a lip that's not so... "exuberant." (i.e. very conservative lip)

Well, I'm definetly getting front parking sensors now; I was very cocky about my driving skills, I am now humbled though, lol.

Yeah, I also can't find the radiant silver color.

I'm hoping I can get this fixed for a decently cheap price, I feel very irresponsible, lol.

Sonata Front bumper

I have driven a car for over 40 years and have not experienced this problem in the past . Love the Sonata but the front bumper scratches so easily and the scratches are so noticeable!! They detract from the beauty of the car. I am going to get some quotes and I am hoping that it is not too expensive to fix. I see that others have this problem also.

I just looked into the cost of repainting the front bumper here in California. Full retail, bumper on the car, was just under $400. I'd save $90 if I removed the bumper and brought it in to them. The prices include the sanding of scratches and curb rash. I'm sure anybody with a friennd in the business would get a cheaper price.

I just rubbed the fender under the door on a low curb. The weather has been bad so I haven't had a chance to get started on repair but here's my plan:

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Cleanser (to remove any wax, currently using Griot's)
4. If most of the damage is gone I'll start with meguiar's ultimate polish and see how it looks. If that takes care of it I'll just throw on some wax and be done. Otherwise I'll repeat 1-3 and go on to 5.
5. Light sanding to smooth out scratches.
6. Prepsol then Dr color chip to fill in the scratches if not too deep
7. More sanding after fill to achieve evenness.
8. Ultimate compound/polish as needed followed by wax.

I'll try to do pictures when I give it a go.

Brig
automotivetouchup.com I have a scrape on my bumper, so I'm going to try to paint it myself with the paint kit from this company.

Ok I completed most of my touch up job up to filling with Dr. Colorchip. It says to wait 3 days before wax and I'd also like to do one more round of polish but here's how it looks so far. I highly doubt it will turn out super professional looking at the end but it keeps it from being noticeable unless you're up close and that's good enough for me right now.

The Scrape:

Prep: Washed with Optimum No Rinse and removed wax with Griot's Cleanser

After clay bar (Mothers)

After 1 round of Meguair's Ultimate Compound followed by Meguair's Ultimate Polish

After Application of Dr. Colorchip and another wash
